PVCu And The Environment
The EEC Green Paper on PVCu and its environmental effects was exceptionally positive about the contribution and role of PVCu in the construction industry. PVCu is ideal for construction because of its lightness, strength, formability and long life span. Its thermal efficiency is superior to timber, has a working life expectancy in excess of 40 years and does not require painting so reduces VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions. Along with this Fresh’s profile uses non-lead PVCu stabilizers.
Windows and Doors
Fresh PVCu windows and doors come highly recommended. Not only are they thermally efficient and draught free, they are also made from a fully recyclable material which requires little to no maintenance.
Fascias, Soffits and Garage Doors
In the war of words over the use of ‘environmentally friendly’ materials it is inevitable that we should be made to feel that ‘natural’ products such as timber from renewable sources are preferable to man made materials like PVCu.
Unfortunately we have devised various noxious substances with which to protect the surface of wood. These paints, stains and varnishes in their conventional solvent based form release large amounts of toxic vapours into the atmosphere and require stripping back and a fresh coat or two applied on a regular basis.
Environmental Management System Certification
As well as the Fresh management team sourcing energy efficient products wherever possible, it has been a policy to promote companies that have had the foresight to develop their own environmental management system policy, thus attaining BS EN 14001
